Save Story Save this story Save Story Save this story While putting on a trench or light sweater is still mostly wishful thinking—the hot, humid temps of summer always stick around longer than they’re wanted—now’s the time to start talking about fall fashion. In these transitional months, everyone has their own premonitions about what trends will dominate the season ahead, but what will actually happen is pretty much anyone’s guess. So we tapped a few people —two astrolgers, a tarot reader, and a psychic—with closer connections to destiny to tell us what the future might hold for fashion.
David Scoroposki is an astrologer and former Vogue editor. While at Vogue , he edited an astrology column by the anonymous “Athena Starwoman,” he said, so, he’s particularly qualified to prognosticate in these pages.
When he looked to the stars, he found, “As Venus reigns supreme in her own sign of Libra, dressing now centers on harmonious beauty and unabashed finery,” said Scoroposki. “Venus is the ultimate astrological signifier for fashion, and in her home placement, the focus returns to flattering silhouettes, exquisite textiles, and romantic tailoring that draws subtle attention to the lower back and waistline, especially.”
So? Expect gorgeous belts, sashes, and even corsetry to be on the docket going forward, he said. Maya AlZaben, publicist and astrologer, felt belts were going to be a big part of fall, too: “Libra rules the waist, so I’m envisioning tighter clothing—waists cinch in, and jackets curve inward instead of hanging straight,” she said. As Venus moves from Libra into Scorpio on September 10, expressions of femininity will get even darker and sexier, she said.
Other trends on the horizon? Draped dresses, lots of skirts, fine silk separates, sumptuous fabrics, whimsical color–especially green, which is sacred to Venus, said Scoroposki. Broadly, shoppers will move toward “timeless grace over fleeting gimmicks,” said Scoroposki.
Dante Sabatino, psychic and tarot reader, did six nine-card spreads for Vogue . Rather than focus on individual cards, he looked for images, texture, colors, and shapes that inform his predictions.
The 10 of pentacles, an elaborate card featuring an old man in a courtyard wearing an embroidered robe, accompanied by a younger couple, child and dogs, rendered in deep color tones, “just kept signaling to me,” said Sabatino, which led him to think fall would move toward “rich, earthy colors.”
“There are desert tones–sand, moss green, burnt sienna and touches of red-orange –contrasted with blue and flashes of gold. I’m also seeing intricate patterns and motifs that feel Turkish, Byzantine or Middle Eastern in influence. There’s richness to it, but it doesn’t feel heavy,” said Sabatino. The influence of desert tones was echoed by the appearance of the three wands, which shows a man standing overlooking a desert landscape.
Like Scoroposki, he also predicts the dominance of skirts and softer fabrics, or “things that move with the body,” he said. That was reinforced by the appearance of the nine of pentacles, which shows an elegant, berobed woman in a lush vineyard.
Thomas John, the psychic medium known for the reality TV show “Seatbelt Psychic,” expects a few behavioral shifts. Fall continues to feel auspicious for vintage. We’ll move “away from overly curated dressing toward vintage pieces, inherited jewelry, scarves, brooches, and…
