Sarah Staudinger’s two biggest seasons are her pre collections. Hence she labels her pre-fall collection the “Summer of Staud.” “The spring 2027 season essentially lives in the slash. It lives in the space between,” the designer explained. “We’ve been describing this collection internally as up/down, east/west, here/there, then/now. The up/down is how she really dresses: evening is not necessarily evening and the day is not simply day.”
Many of these notions were styled throughout the collection. Duchess satin gowns were worn with loafers and sandals and accessorized with a raffia hat rather than a fancy evening clutch. This idea works well for the Staud girl, who, like the designer herself, has a more relaxed approach to fashion. She may try without wanting to try too hard, which comes easy with a Staud look that does all the work for you.
Staudinger, whose accessory game in the contemporary luxury market cannot be beat, has translated her excellence in affordably priced leather goods to her outerwear as well. Her attention to detail when creating the perfect handbag or rubber-soled shoe now extends to leather coats which receive the same treatment as the bags. The season’s opening coat came in the same leather and ombré as its matching oversized Maude tote, which has recently been spotted on a handful of fashion girls. Another great outerwear piece was an ivory crackled leather moto jacket with cool funnel neck collar detailing.
Staud, who doesn’t shy away from a print or a color, had a multitude of new joyous prints. A particularly stellar one was on a patchwork beaded top and skirt that could be worn as separates or a full look.
