Indian online travel agency Cleartrip designed its new Elite loyalty program around problems that arise before a transaction rather than rewards that come after it. And it is pitching Elite as a way to reduce “travel anxiety.”

Manjari Singhal, Cleartrip’s chief growth and business officer told Skift that customers often hesitate when they are unsure whether their plans will hold.

One feature of the new program is domestic flight date changes for just INR 9 (9.4 cents) intended to make customers more comfortable booking earlier. “Customers may value points, but they also value the ability to change a plan without absorbing a large financial penalty,” Singhal said.
