Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Oil revealed on Monday that it is planning to increase associated gas recovery at the Nahr Bin Umar field to 300 million cubic feet per day.
Deputy Minister for Gas Affairs Ezzat Saber chaired a meeting to review associated gas recovery plans and projects at the Nahr Bin Umar field in the southern province of Basra.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the South Gas Company (SGC) and the project operator, Halfaya Gas Company, the state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The meeting focused on the development plan to enhance associated gas recovery, aiming for a target of 300 million standard cubic feet per day.
The plan will be implemented in two phases, each with a capacity of 150 million standard cubic feet per day.
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil said earlier that the Bin Umar gas project will produce between 500 and 600 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Saber mentioned earlier that the project, which will minimize gas flaring and support the country’s electricity grid, is planned to be operational by the end of April.
Saber confirmed the news while inspecting the project’s final connection point in mid-April.
The project will produce 70 million standard cubic feet per day of raw gas, between 500 and 600 tons of LPG for home consumption, around 80 million standard cubic feet per day of dry gas for power plants, and more than 1,800 barrels per day of condensates.
The initiative is an important step toward increasing gas utilization, preventing gas flaring, and strengthening the country’s electricity grid.
