Once again, fashion and art collided as Alexandre Birman gathered longtime friends of the house to toast Fashion Month. Hosted by Guilherme Kfouri, Creative Director of Alexandre Birman, and author and tastemaker Carlos Mota, the evening was a reminder that sometimes the best excuse for a party is simply Fashion Week itself. The guest list was filled with women whose friendships have outlasted more than a few trend resurgences (read: hello early aughts for Spring 2027!), such as stylist Elizabeth Saltzman’s and Anne McNally’s friendship that stretches nearly four decades. Now that’s some fashion history.
The dinner unfolded in the private dining room at Marcel, tucked into the lower level of Sotheby’s on Madison Avenue, where guests including Amy Astley, Giovanna Engelbert, Karla Martínez de Salas, Allison Sarofim, Cathy Ho Lee, and Laure Hériard Dubreuil settled in for an indulgent four-course feast. The evening concluded with dessert wine and Marcel’s infamous “Window on Marcel” confection, a sweet nod to the Breuer building’s unmistakable trapezoidal “Cyclops Eye” windows. The setting was, naturally, just as spectacular. Designed by Roman and Williams, the team behind Soho’s fashion-favorite La Mercerie, the wood-paneled room was lined with Old Masters from Sotheby’s collection. And while a few guests mentioned to the waiters that the room was perhaps a touch chilly, they were reminded that the paintings have needs too: the temperature unfortunately had to remain precisely controlled to preserve the art. Of course that didn’t stop the wine from flowing, and conversation lingered leisurely past the four-hour mark, until the last few guests finally conceded that even Fashion Week requires a little sleep.
