Wyndham's scale could help a brand that has been slow to get properties built.
Travel + Leisure Co. is partnering with Wyndham to grow Sports Illustrated Resorts as a hotel brand, the companies said Monday. The move is a shift for the sports-themed brand, which has so far leaned on timeshares and branded residences and has been slow to get off the ground.
Under the partnership, developers can build a standalone Sports Illustrated hotel or fold one into a mixed-use project with vacation ownership, residences, or both. Travel + Leisure will handle the brand, mixed-use development, and management. Wyndham will supply loyalty, distribution, and marketing, and tap its hotel-owner relationships for development partners.
