We feature two wines from the same producer this week. Marc Lurton is part of a wine dynasty based in Bordeaux that now produces wine in Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, and Australia, as well as France. His brother Pierre runs some of the most prestigious châteaux in Bordeaux. Marc is the fourth generation to run Château Lurton, a property based in the less fashionable (and therefore less expensive) Entre-Deux-Mers sub-region of Bordeaux.
The white wine is made from a blend of sauvignon blanc, sémillon and muscadelle. Don’t be concerned by the vintage; older sémillon ages beautifully. The red wine is made from a classic Bordeaux blend of 50 per cent cabernet sauvignon and 50 per cent merlot.
A very attractive light, crisp, bone-dry white with a lively acidity and waxy, slightly honeyed fruit. With oysters or grilled plaice.
A very pleasant, easy-drinking red Bordeaux with soft, ripe plums and a dry finish. Try it with a steak, roast beef, or firm cheeses.
