Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – In an article published in Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi emphasized the importance of state sovereignty and regional stability in Iraqi-Saudi relations.

“As I stood on Sovereignty Day, surveying our armed forces and security units, I was acutely aware of the enormous duty we owe to the Iraqi people in maintaining their security and stability,” al-Zaidi said.

Al-Zaidi indicated that sovereignty is not just a celebration; it is a daily duty for how the state runs its business, protects its people’s interests, and regulates its relations with countries in the region and the rest of the world.

According to al-Zaidi, sovereignty comprises more than simply having the tools of conventional authority; it also includes the ability to form successful external relationships.

The Iraqi prime minister noted that Iraq needs an approach based on dynamic diplomacy and a strong economy.

Al-Zaidi highlighted the importance of the Iraqi-Saudi ties due to the political and economic weight of both countries, as well as Arab linkages and shared geographic, economic, and security interests.

Both Iraq and Saudi Arabia have made notable progress in rebuilding trust and promoting collaborative initiatives, which are vital for strengthening their bilateral relations, as emphasized by al-Zaidi.

The prime minister explained that Iraq’s security and Saudi Arabia’s stability are both critical to the peace of the Gulf States and the balance in the region.

Al-Zaidi confirmed that Iraq respects other nations’ sovereignty while demanding respect for its own.

Iraq’s geographical location and diversified regional and international links enable it to function as a communication bridge rather than a battleground or launchpad for threats against surrounding countries, according to al-Zaidi.

The Iraqi prime minister said Iraq can be a mediator, uniting regional powers through communication; however, this approach needs balanced relations that avoid affiliation with rival regional blocs and maintain Iraq’s neutrality in disputes.

Al-Zaidi clarified that Iraq and Saudi Arabia might enter a new era of rapprochement, focusing on partnership and joint planning. The stability of the relationship between Baghdad and Riyadh is essential for achieving regional stability and integration.
