Records broken! Silvio Sabba and Valerio Boni ride the longest distance on a motocross bike in 24 hours

As Ducati celebrates its centenary year , two Italian riders have set a new Guinness World Record on a single Ducati Desmo450 EDS .

Silvio Sabba and Valerio Boni now hold the record for the greatest distance on a motocross bike in 24 hours.

Taking to a dirt track just outside Milan on October 1, the pair covered just over 900 miles over 1588 laps of the half-mile loop.

The 21.5bhp machine was kept stock, with its 449.6cc engine stopping only to refuel and for a single oil and filter change, which was said to take under 17 minutes. Not bad going for a competition engine that needs an overhaul every 180 to 240 hours.

Running through the night, the team relied entirely on the Ducati’s LED headlight to avoid the ruts and potholes littering the track.

This may feel like déjà vu as the pair set the record for the Greatest off-road distance by a petrol-powered modified (road legal) scrambler in 24 hours (team) last year, covering over 908 miles on a Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle.

Sabba is said by Guinness World Records to be one of the most proficient record breakers in history, with over 200 records to his name, after his 2011 debut of most squats in one minute (single leg).

Boni is no stranger to record attempts either, with records such as Greatest distance on a pocketbike (minimoto) in 24 hours and greatest distance on an electric scooter in 24 hours (individual) under his belt.

We love seeing how far man and machine can push each other, and this time it seems like both came out on top without too much mishap. Perhaps it’s time we put ourselves in for a record attempt or two…
