Citing "demand of exhibitors higher than ever before," the event organizers are already looking to expand next year's offering "to meet the increasing demand and to improve the visitor experience in the process."

"It is already clear now that gamescom 2026 will be bigger than ever. Exhibitor demand is higher than it has ever been. Fans can look forward to a full program – on location in Cologne and in livestream everywhere in the world," said Felix Falk, managing director of game – The German Games Industry Association and co-organizer of gamescom.

"Gamescom Opening Night Live, the expanded gamescom awesome indies show, or gamescom GDQ, which is celebrating its premiere this year: those are only a few of the highlights that raise anticipation for the world's largest games event many weeks prior to the start."

Earlier this month we learned that the organizers of Gamescom, Koelnmesse and Game - The German Games Industry Association - have agreed on a new partnership with IGN for Gamescom's "gamescom awesome indies show," expanding a long-established relationship under which IGN has served as the production partner of the official Gamescom consumer broadcast. IGN is owned by GamesIndustry.biz parent IGN Entertainment.

This year's Gamescom Congress is focused on the 'Playing Field Democracy' and 'The Games Effect,' which are described as "the positive influence of video games on democratic education, and games as an engine of innovation across the most varied fields – from medicine and industry to the skilled trades, the service sector and public administration."

It takes place on August 27 as part of the wider Gamescom event which runs from Aug 26-30. The event is preceded by developer-focused sibling Gamescom Dev, formerly known as devcom , which runs from Aug 23-25. The first speakers were announced in April .
