On Jul. 28, 2026, Valve released a Dota 2 hotfix addressing a critical Meepo exploit that allowed players to duplicate items and generate practically infinite amounts of gold during matches.

After the exploit was identified, Meepo was temporarily removed from the Dota 2 hero pool, preventing players from selecting the hero manually or receiving him through random selection. A hotfix was deployed shortly afterwards, with an update confirming that the exploit had been fixed .

According to player reports on Reddit, the Meepo exploit involved manipulating how the hero interacted with certain items, the courier, the stash, and Dota 2’s automatic item-combination system.

Rather than legitimately purchasing every base component, players could create duplicate copies of combinable items. These could then be sold repeatedly to rapidly generate gold, reportedly allowing Meepo to assemble a full six-slot inventory within the opening minutes of a match.

In a video shared by Reddit user u/Bombad1ll, the player fills all but one inventory slot with Iron Branches. He then purchases Sange and locks the item to prevent it from combining automatically. Next, he sells an Iron Branch, purchases Yasha separately, transfers it to his courier, and moves the courier away from the fountain.

The player then purchases another Iron Branch so no inventory slots remain available. After unlocking Sange, he allows Meepo to die. Before respawning, he recalls the courier, causing Yasha to be moved to his stash, and swaps it with an Iron Branch from his inventory. This leaves both Sange and Yasha uncombined in his inventory.

When Meepo respawns, a glitch appears that allows the player to generate unlimited copies of Sange and Yasha, which can then be sold to generate effectively infinite gold. Although the footage demonstrates the exploit using Sange and Yasha, players claimed that other combinable items could also trigger the issue.

The initial removal notice was later struck through after a follow-up update on Jul. 28 confirmed that the exploit allowing Meepo to duplicate combinable items had been fixed. Valve has not announced whether accounts found deliberately abusing the exploit will receive bans, matchmaking restrictions, or any other penalties.

Concerningly, this is not the first time Valve needed to address a serious Meepo-related bug this year.
