AJS have filled the gap left by their much-anticipated Imber , with not one but two new models now appearing on their website for pre-order.
The Imber, a rugged semi-automatic four-speed alternative to Honda’s UK-unavailable CT125 , was cancelled earlier this year when it failed to meet emissions regs.
The Leten LT190 and Ridgeway 125 are both similar in design to the Imber, blending rugged off-road styling with a traditional moped side profile. It’s the same formula Honda use on the postie – a bike that has attracted a cult-like following in some parts of the world.
Details remain scarce for the Ridgeway, but we have a full spec and pricing for the Leten – and it’s packed with high-spec equipment for the £3495 asking price.
Power comes from a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 188cc single with double overhead cams and four valves. It produces a claimed 18.8bhp at 8000rpm, which is sent to the rear wheel through a CVT automatic transmission using a belt-to-chain drive. That means there’s no clutch or gear lever to worry about.
AJS describe the LT190 as an ‘All-scenario Utility Vehicle’, pitching it as a lightweight machine for back roads, green lanes and weekends away. To that end, the pillion seat flips up to become a back-rest, exposing a rugged-looking luggage rack underneath. You also get a steel bash plate to protect the engine from rocks if you head off-road.
The engine uses Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coated piston rings, which AJS say reduce friction, improve wear resistance and help transfer combustion heat away from the piston crown. That’s the same tech used when superbike manufacturers want to reduce friction in their ultra high-performance engines!
The LT190 is built around a tubular steel double-cradle frame and rides on 17in aluminium rims front and rear, wrapped in tubeless tyres – a 90/90 up front and a 110/70 at the rear.
Suspension is handled by conventional forks at the front and twin five-way adjustable gas shocks at the rear. Braking is by front and rear discs, with switchable dual-channel ABS. Switchable traction control is also fitted, giving extra reassurance on changeable surfaces.
The Leten’s tech far outweighs what you’d expect at this end of the market, with keyless ignition, TFT dash, heated grips, switchable traction control and USB port all included as standard.
With a seat height of 790mm and a kerb weight of 149kg, the LT190 should be manageable for less experienced or shorter riders . It has a 9.0-litre fuel tank and a claimed economy figure of 75mpg, plus a maximum load of 150kg.
The Ridgeway looks to be a more road-focused version with a retro flavour to the styling. Its 125cc engine will almost certainly make it an option for those on L-plates, too, and the £2699 (plus OTR) asking price will make a tempting alternative to a step-through scooter.
Both the LT190 and Ridgeway are available to pre-order now, with an expected arrival date of September 2026.
AJS confirmed in June that the Imber would no longer be imported because the factory could not meet the Conformity of Production standards set out under European Whole Vehicle Type Approval, including Euro5+ emissions regulations.
Around 100 people had already placed pre-orders, and deposits have since been refunded (or re-Imber-sed). At the time, AJS Marketing Director Megan Brown said the firm still hoped to work with other manufacturing partners to fill the gap in the market – and that’s exactly what these two new models appear to do.
