Add The California Post on Google A family meeting Goofy at Disneyland got an unexpected surprise when they realized an A-list actor had been watching the adorable interaction from just a few feet away: Matt Damon .
Loryn Powell posted the unexpected celebrity sighting on Instagram Friday after capturing what was supposed to be a special family moment: her young daughter’s first encounter with Goofy at Goofy’s Kitchen in the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim .
The video shows Powell’s husband crouching next to their daughter as Goofy, wearing his chef uniform, comes over to greet them. The girl excitedly waves at the character before wrapping her arms around him.
What the family apparently didn’t notice was the famous face standing just behind them.
Matt Damon can be spotted a short distance away, casually watching the meet-and-greet with his arms folded and grinning as the girl embraces Goofy.
“POV you’re watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time but don’t realize Matt Damon is also watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time,” Powell wrote over the video.
“When your daughter is more starstruck by Goofy than Matt Damon,” she joked in the caption.
“As you can tell we love dressing up for a good theme so taking our 2.5 year old daughter to Disneyland for her first time was magical,” Powell told The California Post. “Even if Matt Damon hadn’t been there,” she added.
It didn’t take long for people online to notice the Hollywood star lurking in the background. While some commenters wondered whether it was really Damon, others spotted a possible giveaway: the hat he was wearing appeared to say Artists Equity, the production company he launched with longtime friend Ben Affleck.
Damon was visiting Disneyland around the same time for a celebration of his own.

The actor was spotted at the theme park Thursday alongside his wife, Luciana Barroso, their daughters and a group of relatives and friends to mark his daughter Gia’s 18th birthday, according to Parade. Photos from the outing showed the group sporting matching “Birthday Crew” shirts and gathering for a picture in front of the oversized Mickey Mouse pumpkin on Main Street, U.S.A.
Whether Powell captured her video during that same Disneyland outing was not immediately clear.
