The government has told social media companies to take down content showing people driving the wrong way down roads.

No 10 said the glorification of dangerous driving “for clips and entertainment is utterly disgraceful”, with a Downing Street spokesperson saying that Ofcom, the UK’s online regulator, has the government’s “full backing to take tough action” against platforms which fail in their legal duties.

Twelve people have been arrested on suspicion of offences including being involved with organised crime as part of the investigation into events leading to a crash on the A66 near Middlesbrough on Saturday that killed two police officers and five others.

Andy Burnham has accused the Kremlin of “outrageous threats” against Britain as Russia warned of an escalation in tensions after the UK’s decision to present Ukraine with newly declassified blueprints to allow Kyiv to improve its production of long-range missiles. Burnham has been in Kyiv today on his first official visit to Ukraine as the UK’s prime minister.

Graduate job vacancies in the UK have sunk to their lowest level since they started being tracked a decade ago, according to a recruiting website.

Survivors of violent crime and families of victims have criticised the UK government for announcing “world first” plans to introduce restriction zones for serious offenders freed from prison within a few weeks without spelling out how they would work.
