Audley Travel is one of the best tailor-made tour operators in the world, a £482 million ($656 million) business built on a model the rest of travel is now arguing about: highly paid human specialists who plan your whole trip.

Because Audley is privately held inside a private equity structure, its economics have mostly been hidden from view.
