But that doesn't mean she's given up eye shadow and eyeliner forever, as evidenced by her look at Vogue World Milano on September 22. For the high-profile Fashion Month event, she popped up in the most dramatic eye makeup we've seen on her in a long, long time.
Anderson, who is a mainstay at various fashion shows and loves clothes, was an attendee at the fifth installment of the runway show-slash-pop-up event, which was held in Milan during Milan Fashion Week. The metallic gold gown was great, of course, but what we instantly focused on was her makeup, given what a huge departure it is from the most stripped-down version of Anderson we've been seeing the past few years. Her eyes were deeply, tightly lined on both the top and bottom waterlines with bold black liner drawn all the way into the inner corners for extra definition. The dark color was then slightly smoked out beneath her lower lashline, above, and outward, creating a classic dark gray smoky eye paired with long lashes that nearly brushed her famous, signature skinny brows.
In a Get Ready with Me video posted to TikTok , Anderson noted that she was going for a fresh-faced look thanks to her skin-care brand Sonsie, and Pat McGrath's team was en route to give her a “Cleopatra eye" for the night; the shape definitely does resemble the iconic imagery of the ancient Egyptian queen. “I'm convinced that skin just looks better raw,” she said in the video. “And then just a little bit of Cleopatra inspiration, but modernized… it's going to go really nice with my Ferragamo.”
Getty Images Anderson's hair was just as statement-making as her eye makeup; her platinum blonde bob was tightly curled and brushed into a '50s style, with a portion tucked behind her ear and the front section styled in the perfect little swoop right over one brow.
One of the things we love most about Anderson as a beauty icon is that she's equal parts playful, rebellious, and earthy, and these aspects of her personality often come to life in her red carpet looks. She never said she was quitting makeup forever, and told British Vogue that she was taking a pause to see “what my next incarnation would be." She said she was looking for a “clean slate” to help translate "how I want to live and breathe, in nature and the red-carpet world.”
