When I headed to Tanzania this summer to see the Great Migration — the crown jewel in the country's safari industry — I couldn't miss checking into the new Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection. This all-inclusive member of Marriott Bonvoy just opened last year as Autograph Collection's first safari camp.
With all the usual trappings of a luxury hotel, plus safari-specific offerings like game drives, there's a lot to unpack in this stay. Let's dive in.

Mapito Safari Camp is tucked away in the bush behind the small village of Robanda, on the outskirts of Serengeti National Park.
When my husband and I arrived, sweaty and tired after a five-hour drive, we were greeted by a whole team of Mapito staff bearing damp towels, welcome drinks and handmade bracelets. We gratefully handed off our luggage and made our way along the gravel paths that wind between the property's heavy-duty tents.
On the outside, the impression was one of quiet luxury coexisting with the rugged landscape, which spilled over in the form of scrubby plants and slithering snakes. Once inside our tent, I saw the full extent of the hotel's carefully curated beauty.
Mapito Safari Camp contains three deluxe tents, six one-bedroom tented suites and six two-bedroom tented suites. There is also one tented villa with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, a game room and a private pool.
That's right — the accommodations are technically tents, though they're so huge and sturdy you would hardly know it from inside. That is, until you open the retractable roof that each tent is equipped with, letting in expansive views of the sky and sounds of the savannah. (Don't worry, there's a screen to keep out unwanted visitors.) This is glamping at its most luxurious; no shared bathrooms or headlamps here.
