Just off the A2 in Gravesend sits a café that once used to ban bikers from even eating inside. But when Sandra Hussan took over the place 10 years ago, with just two customers in the café, she knew something had to change. Before long, the doors were thrown open and bikers were welcomed back.
Inside the atmosphere is always warm and friendly
“We turned it around,” she says. “I treat my customers like family and the bikers – well I can’t praise them enough. It’s all just banter, banter, banter. But they’re not just bikers, they’re human beings.”
On the edge of main roads, but it still has that calm atmosphere
Motorcyclists are more than just customers, they’ve run fundraisers which have bought a defibrillator for the café, cheques for local charities and have supported individuals in the community.
Sandra’s work has been recognised in the community
“We had a request from the care home – this 92-year-old’s bucket list included going on the back of a trike. We had an open day and the pensioner, his carer and me all had a go on the trike – it made his day!”
Sandra prides herself on the fact that everything on the menu is homemade. “Even the pastry for the steak pie is homemade,” she says. “And you won’t find one bit of gristle. A lot of love goes into it.”

Although there is no longer a dedicated bike night as other establishments around the area have those covered, the weekend can get so busy with bikes that you’ll find it hard to park. But that’s what keeps the atmosphere amazing and the motorcycling community buzzing.

Hop over the A2, head to Hook Green. Join the A227 to Wrotham Heath then the B2016 to A228. Keep heading south all the way to Kipping’s Cross then hop on the A21 and take a break at Scotney Castle. B2100 towards Mark Cross, Mayfield, then take a left on the A265. Stop at Bodiam Castle or continue to Hastings.
