Minor Hotels built its Vietnam business around overseas travelers heading to the beach. Now rising domestic travel, corporate business and meetings are giving the hotel group a reason to move into Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Minor Hotels wants to turn its collection of Vietnamese resorts into a broader national network, betting that the country's biggest urban cities can attract corporate, domestic and meetings business largely missing from its existing portfolio, its chief development and luxury officer told Skift.

For more than two decades, Minor's footprint in Vietnam has centered on leisure destinations such as Hoi An, Mui Ne, and Quy Nhon. Now the hotel group is looking to commercial hubs Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City for its next phase of expansion.

"Our presence to date has been built around resort destinations, simply because that's where we saw the strongest opportunity for international demand," said Omar Romero, Minor Hotels' chief development and luxury officer. "Vietnam today is a very different market," he added.
