Who said airlines have to fly every route they sell? Low-cost-carrier Tigerair Taiwan is testing a way to tap another carrier’s network, sell the journey itself, and skip the traditional interline setup.

Airlines have traditionally grown their networks by adding flights or partnering with other carriers through interline and codeshare agreements. Tigerair Taiwan is testing another option, selling another airline’s flights through its own booking channels.

The Taiwanese low-cost carrier partnered with Iceland-based travel technology company Dohop to launch Tigerhop. The platform connects Tigerair Taiwan’s network with Singapore-based Scoot’s, letting customers book multi-carrier journeys directly through Tigerair’s own channels.

The initial connections link Taipei and Da Nang with Singapore on Scoot, with onward connections to destinations including Akita, Hanamaki and Tottori in Japan.

“With Tigerhop, we can connect our existing network with complementary partner networks and reach new origin-destination markets without adding an aircraft. It allows us to extend the reach of our network, while keeping our own operation simple and focused,”
