The Spanish international Pedro Porro, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur, has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new long-term contract with the club on Sunday.

Porro (25 years old) had attracted the interest of many top clubs before the start of the summer transfer window, but the right-back agreed to a deal that will keep him in North London until 2031.

Convincing Porro to stay at Tottenham, which narrowly avoided relegation to the second tier (Championship) in the final round of last season, is an important step for Italian manager Roberto De Zerbi.

De Zerbi said: "Pedro is a very important player for us, and he has consistently shown his ability to impact games defensively and offensively."

He added: "In addition to his technical skills, I am also impressed by his mentality. He strives daily to work, learn, and develop, and these are the qualities that help players reach the highest levels."

He continued: "This new contract is good news for everyone at the club. We believe in Pedro's abilities, and I’m excited to continue working with him and helping him achieve more success in the coming years."

In a video posted by Tottenham on Instagram, Porro, who is currently with the Spanish national team at the World Cup, said: "Hello Tottenham fans. I am very happy to have signed a new contract. I look forward to seeing you next season. Come on you Spurs!"

Porro, who played 47 matches for Tottenham last season, joined the team from Sporting Lisbon in 2023 and has emerged as one of the standout players at the club. He scored 13 goals and provided 26 assists in 152 matches with Tottenham.
