The Spin: Misinterpreted and missing advertising

The Spin has seen its fair share of errors that make you do a double take. Here are some eyebrow-raising examples that the Spin discovered including some misinterpreted, misunderstood and missing advertising from the month gone by.

  1. Changing rooms are generally places where you expect to be left alone to contemplate whether those trousers really are worth the price tag. This one appears to have other ideas. We’re not quite sure what’s going on behind door number four, but The Spin is intrigued by the prospect of a four-man trial.

  2. This brand clearly has a lot of faith in its sneakers. Its latest Instagram ad features a person explaining that they wear them with everything. We were curious to see the evidence, but it seems we’ll just have to take their word for it. Perhaps the brand is saving the big reveal for part two.

  3. We appreciate a bicycle that comes with instructions. Wear a helmet, ride carefully and enjoy the journey all seem like perfectly sensible pieces of advice. The Spin is just slightly puzzled by the inclusion of one final warning. We’re not sure that’s something we’ve ever seen on a safety notice before.

  4. This ad appears to be speaking two different languages. The English version has a fairly straightforward message, while the Arabic version seems to have some rather different advice for would-be customers. Is this disruption for the sake of it, or is it counter-productive?

  5. This ride-hailing poster was spotted exactly where you’d expect it – at a drop-off point. A case of being in the right place, with perhaps the wrong word. The Spin doesn’t know about passengers, but this ride certainly did a good job of dropping off a few letters.

  6. Indian cuisine has travelled rather well, finding its way on to menus all over the world. This particular restaurant, however appears to have bitten more off than it can chew. We’re not sure who invited the extended family, but there they are.

  7. We’ve heard of making the most of every hour, but this might be pushing it. The Spin would very much like to ask Apple where those extra hours came from, as we could certainly use a few.

  8. When Dolly Parton died, two Scottish tabloids appeared to be reading from the same lyric sheet. Almost. The difference was small, but enough to give us a brief pause. Perhaps the writers missed the rendition of “Jolene, Jolene, I’m beggin’ you, please don’t take my headline”.
