MotoGP: Toprak Razgatlioglu to miss remainder of 2026 season due to shoulder injury

Toprak Razgatlioglu has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 MotoGP season with a shoulder injury.

The two-time World Superbike champion suffered a dislocated shoulder in his practice crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix, and whilst he returned to the circuit for qualifying and finished the Sprint, Razgatlioglu retired in the opening laps of the Grand Prix due to a lack of strength in his shoulder.

The Prima Pramac Yamaha rider underwent further medical examinations in Milan, and it’s been determined that the damage to his shoulder requires surgery. The operation has been scheduled for October 26.

“After further medical assessments it became clear that my shoulder is worse than we first believed,” Razgatlioglu said. “As a result, I’ll undergo surgery in the coming days to give myself the best chance of making a full recovering and returning at 100%.

“This wasn’t an easy decision, but after consulting with the doctors and the people closest to me, we are convinced it is the right step for my future.”

Razgatlioglu will miss this weekend’s trip to Phillip Island, a circuit in-which he’s had success previously during his time in WorldSBK.

The Turkish rider has one victory at the iconic circuit, which will not be on the 2027 MotoGP calendar , as well as seven further podiums. Phillip Island will be replaced by a street circuit in Adelaide next year.

“I’m extremely disappointed to miss the Australian Grand Prix. Phillip Island is one of my favourite circuits and a place where I’ve enjoyed some very special moments during my superbike career. I was excited about the opportunity to race here on my MotoGP bike, which makes this situation even harder to accept.

“I would also like to wish Jack [Miller, Pramac Yamaha teammate] all the best for his home Grand Prix. Racing in front of your home crowd is always special, and with this being the final MotoGP event at Phillip Island, I hope he can enjoy a fantastic weekend and achieve a great result.”

Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez will replace Razgatlioglu for the final few rounds of the year.
