WSJ. knows how to throw a party! Last night, WSJ. Magazine held their 16th annual Innovator Awards at The Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan with an attention to detail you don’t seen often these days. The evening kicked off with cocktails on the main level of MOMA and then a sit-down dinner to watch the awards.
The night honored seven pioneers at the height of their careers in the fields of fashion, sports, tech, literature, film, comedy, and music. In conjunction with their November issue, this year’s honorees were Savannah Bananas (Sports), Matthieu Blazy for Chanel (Fashion), Demis Hassabis (Tech), Marlon James (Literature), Martin McDonagh (Film), Amy Poehler (Comedy) and Rosalía (Music). Presenters included A$AP Rocky, Dua Lipa, Lupita Nyong’o, Patti Smith, Russell Wilson, Marcello Hernández, Seth Myers, and Darren Aronofsky,
“This year’s honorees are recognized not only for their incredibly high achievements, but for fundamentally evolving their respective fields and, by extension, our broader culture,” said Sarah Ball, editor-in-chief. “Tonight, we celebrate the 2026 Innovators, whose creativity, vision and boldness have indelibly changed how we move about the world.”
Dua Lipa presented Blazy’s award with A$AP Rocky and wore a classic Chanel look in a high-neck, hip-length jacket and below-the-knee pencil skirt from their Cruise collection. (Lipa wore a custom look from Blazy to her wedding to Callum Turner this past July.) “One day I’ll be able to tell my grandkids that granny got married in Chanel Couture,” she said. “Matthieu has the rare gift of respecting the legacy of Chanel while making the runway feel unpredictable, vibrant, and truly alive. Under his direction, you can feel the energy in the room shift. One minute you’re admiring a [look] and then next you’re dancing to “Gimme More” by Britney for the finale. Matthieu, you proved that every season fashion can be deeply intellectual, wildly ambitious, and so much fun!”
Blazy, who admitted to being a little nervous, gave a memorable speech and gave credit to his colleagues, who helped pave the way for his success at the house. “I would like to thank my teams and everyone across Chanel across the world because this prize is honestly yours,” he said. “I would like to thank the people I get to meet. Whether they are celebrities or hair and makeup and casting. I got very lucky with the parents that I had because they really thought that fashion could be pure joie. ”
The night also welcomed Adut Akech, Alina Cho, Ashley Graham, Bethann Hardison, Betsy Gaghan, Bhavitha Mandava, Christian Louboutin, Christopher John Rogers, Ciara, Devyn Garcia, Emmy Rossum, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Gayle King, Henry Zankov, Inez van Lamsweerde, Imaan Hammam, Irina Shayk, Jason Wu, Jordan Roth, Jordyn Woods, Joseph Altuzarra, Lindsay Peoples, Meadow Walker, Reed Krakoff, Tyler Mitchell, Vinoodh Matadin, Wes Gordon, Zane Lii, and more.
Presenting sponsors of this year’s Innovator Awards were Harry Winston, New York Stock Exchange, Garmin and Roche Bobois.
