Over the weekend, supermodel Lara Stone took to Instagram to share a harrowing health update with her 730,000 followers.
“Since it’s still officially Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share that I have recently been diagnosed and am undergoing treatment for breast cancer,” she wrote in a caption accompanying a text graphic encouraging people to ‘check your breasts it could save your life.’

“This has obviously been a huge shock,” she continued, “and I’m so grateful to have found it early. I don’t often share my personal life online, but if this post will make just 1 person check their breasts, or make that appointment they’ve been putting off, it’s worth sharing. Please don’t ignore changes to your body.”
Stone, who is Dutch, was discovered on the Paris metro at the age of 12 while on vacation with her parents. She competed in the Elite Model Look competition in 1999 at age 15 and signed with Elite shortly after. Her breakthrough didn’t come until 2006, though, when she signed with IMG and made her runway debut for Givenchy couture designed by Ricardo Tisci. Lucrative campaigns with Calvin Klein, Prada, Hugo Boss, and Givenchy soon followed and she quickly became a favorite of French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, appearing in numerous editorials and gracing the magazine’s cover 10 times between 2007 and 2025.
In May of 2010 she married English comedian David Walliams and the two had a son in 2013 before divorcing in 2015. She is now married to property developer David Grievson and the couple welcomed their first child, a son, in July of 2023.
Since announcing her diagnosis, messages of love and support have been pouring in from her colleagues in the fashion industry including photographer Mario Testino and fellow models Daphne Groeneveld, Lily Aldridge, Karen Elson, and Bianca Balti, who knows firsthand what Stone is going through, having survived stage three ovarian cancer herself.
