June 16, 2026 June 16, 2026 Home » competitions » TCK The Civic Kiosk 2026 competition, an open international architectural competition organized by Terraviva Competitions, a private competition platform based in Milan. The competition invites architects, designers, urban planners, engineers, artists, students, makers, and activists from around the world to reimagine the traditional newsstand as a miniature architectural piece for the contemporary urban public space. Complete freedom to choose any location in the world. The submission deadline is December 4, 2026, at 15:00 Central European Time, and the winners will be announced on January 11, 2027.

The newsstand is presented in the program as a type facing an existential crisis in the digital age: it was once a vital daily hub for information, culture, and social interaction, but today it occupies a nebulous and neglected role in the urban landscape. The competition asks participants to reimagine the program and services that the newsstand can offer, as well as the architectural object itself — its form, materials, spatial configuration, and identity. What does a 21st-century newsstand look like, function, and transform throughout the day? The program frames the newsstand as an opportunity to turn a forgotten urban type into a new landmark for civic life.

This is a conceptual ideas competition. Participants can choose any urban site in the world. All winning and honored projects will be published on Terraviva's channels and displayed at a public exhibition. A 15% launch discount is available with code TCK15XTVC for early registration until June 29, 2026. All cash prizes are paid in euros at a fixed rate of 1 euro = 1.25 dollars for administrative reasons.

Open to individuals and teams of any size. Individual registration has no limit on members. The monthly membership plan is limited to 5 members including the team leader. The submission consists of one horizontal A1 board (594 × 841 mm) in PDF or JPG format and a brief text describing the proposal. The detailed program is available in English, Italian, Spanish, and French. Optional additional services: Extend (72-hour extension) and Verify (compliance check) and Flex to Withdraw (withdraw without losing registration fees).

All prices include tax with no additional fees upon payment. Group discounts for students are available — contact alexandra@terravivacompetitions.com. Professional plans for firms with unlimited access — contact info@terravivacompetitions.com.

The total prize pool is 8,000 dollars (6,000 dollars in cash + 2,000 dollars in vouchers). The cash prizes are paid in euros at a fixed rate of 1 euro = 1.25 dollars.

The Civic Kiosk is one of Terraviva's most typologically specific and intellectually deep programs. The newsstand as a subject is one of the least theorized in contemporary architectural discourse despite its prevalence and its sharp connection to questions of information, commerce, and citizens' meeting in public space. The program's call to reimagine both the program and the form together, rather than reprogram an existing envelope, presents a design challenge that is more demanding and productive than most miniature architecture competitions. The freedom to choose the site is a wise decision that allows participants to ground their proposals in real urban conditions they understand. The jury consists of eight internationally composed members with reliable professional affiliations including AMDL Circle, HKS Architects, Nikken Sekkei, and Alexandria University. The early registration fee of 69 euros is consistent with Terraviva's standard pricing. The total cash awards of 6,000 dollars are modest but commensurate with the one-board format. For architects and urban space designers interested in miniature civic infrastructure and the future of public space facilities, this is a well-framed program that deserves serious engagement.

TCK The Civic Kiosk 2026 is an open international ideas competition to reinvent the urban newsstand with a total cash prize pool of 6,000 dollars and a single A1 board submission format. Early registration at 69 euros opens on June 16, 2026. The submission deadline is December 4, 2026, at 15:00. Winners will be announced on January 11, 2027. Registration at terravivacompetitions.com.
