The Economic Court in Egypt is reviewing the case of the accused Mohamed Waziri, the former manager of the artist Haifa Wehbe, related to money laundering allegations during its sessions.
In detail, the accused attended in person inside the courtroom accompanied by his legal defense team, who presented their defenses before the court, demanding the acquittal of their client, based on the absence of the legal elements constituting the crime of money laundering and the lack of material evidence for its commission.
During the session, the accused's lawyers argued that there were no elements of the crime in question, emphasizing that the documents and investigations do not include anything that proves the facts attributed to their client, as required by law in such cases.
The defense submitted a precautionary request for postponement of the case until the resolution of the appeal regarding a previous ruling in the “squandering” case, explaining that the accused previously had a ruling against him in that case and served the prescribed sentence, which they considered related to the current allegations legally.
The defense added that the existence of a final ruling in the previous case raises, from their perspective, an issue regarding the possibility of basing a new money laundering charge on the basis of an original crime that is subject to an ongoing legal appeal.
