The site housing Darley Moor race circuit has been listed for sale online, with offers currently being considered on the 168.58-acre track site, as well as a 12.15-acre section of surrounding woodland.
Racing began at the Derbyshire venue in 1964, following the area’s previous use as a WW2 RAF base. It has since continued for more than 60 years, with the 1.5-mile triangular course attracting a number of famous including Barry Sheene , John McGuinness , Carl Fogarty , Cal Crutchlow , and Michael Rutter .
An online advert listed by Savills estate agents states that the circuit site and woodland are being considered for either an individual or joint sale, adding: “The site has a long-term development potential and is being considered for development in recent consultation of the emerging Derbyshire Dales Local Plan.”
MCN contacted the Darley Moor Motor Cycle Road Racing Club Ltd, who stated that they had another five years on their lease that must be honoured, and that for now they would be continuing to plan and run racing events as usual.
Located in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, the next race weekend is planned to take place on June 20-21, with additional competitions scheduled for July, August, September, and October. Trackdays are also available.
It’s a great shame when any motorcycling venue is put under threat, but it’s especially sad when there’s over 60 years of racing history and heritage at risk. Here’s hoping the new owners continue to use the site for motorcycle-related activity long after the current lease expires.
