The idea of Jim Carrey returning to portray the character of “The Grinch” is coming closer to reality, with initial talks starting around producing a second part of the classic film How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
According to a report from Hollywood Reporter, Carrey and several original cast members have entered negotiations to return to the new project, which is being worked on by Universal and Imagine Entertainment.
It is expected that director Ron Howard will return to direct the new installment, having overseen the first film released over 25 years ago that achieved great success at the box office during the holiday season.
Reports also indicate that producer Brian Grazer is in talks to join the project, as part of efforts to reunite the team that presented the original version.
Although the project is still in negotiation stages and has not been confirmed definitively, some names like Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer, and David Mandt are being considered to write the script should the agreement be finalized.
Carrey previously spoke about the difficulty of the role he portrayed as “The Grinch,” describing the experience as extremely exhausting, despite the massive success the film achieved upon its release.
If the agreement is finalized, the new film would mark the first potential return of the character in over two decades, generating widespread anticipation among fans of classic comedy films.
