Goalkeeper Eloy Room gifts the underdog Curaçao a historic point in the World Cup

Curaçao's national team, led by their outstanding goalkeeper Eloy Room, secured a historic point in the World Cup after drawing 0-0 with Ecuador in the second round of Group E in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

Both teams failed to find the net throughout the two halves of the match, with players from both sides squandering all the opportunities available during the 90 minutes, especially from the Ecuadorian side, which dominated the second half in particular and faced a brick wall in the form of goalkeeper Eloy Room, who saved nearly 10 shots, leaving each team with a single point.

With this result, Ecuador's national team sits in third place with one point, ahead on goal difference from Curaçao, which remains at the bottom of the standings with the same tally.

Ecuador started its campaign in the current World Cup with a 0-1 loss to Ivory Coast in the opening round of the group, which also witnessed a heavy defeat for Curaçao, participating in the World Cup for the first time, by a score of 1-7 to Germany.

Curaçao will face Ivory Coast, currently in second place with 3 points, in the next round, which will also feature another matchup between Ecuador and Germany, topping the group with 6 points, who secured their advancement to the Round of 32 in the tournament earlier.
