Sega has announced that Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be released on the Switch 2 on September 24, in both physical and digital editions. It is an action-platformer game that has received critical acclaim.
The Digital Standard Edition will be priced around £24.99 / $29.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition will be priced at around £34.99 / $39.99.
In addition to the base game, the Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Sega Villains Stage DLC, where the protagonist Joe Musashi faces off against a number of bosses from other Sega games. It also includes a digital art book and a digital soundtrack, along with the Medic Lite Amulet, Ghost Outfit, and 2000 Gold.
It doesn’t seem that owners of the Switch version of Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free or at a discounted price, meaning they will need to purchase it again. This isn’t unusual for Sega games, but the publisher has made exceptions in the past. The Switch version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, which released later, could be upgraded to the Switch 2 version for £10 / $10.
VGC's five-star review describes Shinobi: Art of Vengeance as “amazing,” praising its action, hand-drawn detailed graphics, and soundtrack composed by Shinobi veteran Yuzo Koshiro, known for Streets of Rage, and Tee Lopes, known for Sonic Mania.
“It has been a long time since we had a new Shinobi game, but Art of Vengeance was worth the wait and more. With stunning visuals, an exceptional soundtrack, and an engaging combat system that makes every encounter enjoyable, this game elevates Sega’s action-platformer to new heights in the same way Lizardcube previously did with Streets of Rage 4. Exceptional.”
The game Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be released on August 29, 2025, on both PlayStation 4 and 5.
