Mohamed Salah scored Egypt's second goal against New Zealand, giving his team the lead for the first time in its history in World Cup competitions, and becoming Egypt's all-time top scorer in the World Cup.
At the 'BC Place' stadium in Vancouver, Salah scored Egypt's second goal after a back-heel pass from Mustafa Ziko, who had scored the equalizer, placing it into the net with a precise shot in the 68th minute.
Salah's goal marked the eighth goal for Egypt in World Cup history, following the team's two goals in the 1934 edition in Italy, one goal in 1990, two goals in 2018, and now three goals thus far in the 2026 edition.
Salah also netted his third goal in the World Cup, leading Egypt's scoring table, with Abdul Rahman Fawzi behind him, who scored two goals for Egypt against Hungary in the 1934 edition in Italy, and both Magdy Abdel Ghany, Imam Ashour, and Mustafa Ziko each scoring once.
Salah scored two goals in the 2018 edition in Russia against the host nation and Saudi Arabia in the tournament that saw Egypt exit in the first round, before adding his third goal against New Zealand in Vancouver.
Salah is close to equaling his coach Hossam Hassan's record in the all-time leading scorers for the national team, as he has reached 67 goals, just two behind Hossam, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt three times as a player and reached the semifinals as a coach in the last edition of the tournament in Morocco.
