Xbox Sales Hit All-Time Low in May

The latest data on video game sales in the United States reveals that Xbox recorded its worst May ever in terms of hardware sales.

The latest information on Xbox hardware sales in the United States for May 2026 comes via a series of new posts from Mat Piscatella on the BlueSky platform. The Switch 2 was the best-selling console during May 2026 and year-to-date in 2026, while PlayStation took second place, with Xbox coming in last. Nonetheless, it was a very poor month for Xbox, as Piscatella noted that “Xbox hardware sales hit an all-time low for May,” despite the fact that data tracking began in 1995.

The decline for the gaming giants is entirely attributed to recent price increases due to shortages and rising costs of storage and memory components for consoles. Xbox recently announced a new price hike for its consoles starting August 1, with prices for all models set to rise by $100 or more.

This may not be the end of the line, as the manufacturer expects storage and memory prices to double by Fall 2027, which could also be reflected in console prices.

I am always looking for a good story, a well-crafted scenario, and a gripping dramatic plot in any video game, and I'm not opposed to tackling competitive games with innovative and exciting ideas.

Due to the rise in storage and memory component costs.
