Iraqi Security Forces Conduct Raids in Baghdad's Green Zone

Iraqi security forces have deployed in the fortified Green Zone in Baghdad this morning (Sunday), raiding the headquarters and homes of "several political figures," according to a security official.

The Green Zone houses the U.S. embassy and other diplomatic missions, as well as international institutions and government offices, and is home to high-ranking officials and politicians.

Videos circulated on the messaging app Telegram show security forces using heavy vehicles, including tanks, inside the Green Zone, along with footage of security personnel inside a residential complex and inside one of the homes.

The French Press Agency quoted a security official, who requested anonymity, stating that "the raid targeted several political figures accused of financial corruption and under judicial orders," adding that the operation involved counter-terrorism forces and the army. No official statement has been issued yet.

The raids aim to arrest senior Iraqi officials, with local media circulating names of prominent figures.

New Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zidi pledged to combat corruption and mismanagement that have plagued Iraq for decades.
