Sony has announced that it will remove over 550 movies and shows from the digital libraries of PlayStation users starting September 1, 2026, following the expiration of its licensing agreement with Studio Canal. The company confirmed that users who purchased these works will not be able to access them after that date, without announcing any compensation or refunds.
The works to be removed include popular films such as Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Evil Dead, and From Dusk Till Dawn, along with several TV shows. This move has reignited the debate over digital ownership, as PlayStation's terms of use state that purchasing digital content grants the user a license for use, not permanent ownership, allowing for the removal of content when licensing agreements expire.
