Nothing signals summer to me quite like sitting in the sunshine with a chilled glass of rosé in hand, so when I discovered that its namesake manicure had become one of the season’s most coveted nail trends, booking a salon appointment felt inevitable.

While soap nails may have dominated minimalist manicure trends throughout 2026, as summer arrives, an even softer aesthetic is taking over. High-shine finishes are making way for delicate, barely-there manicures that embody the “quiet luxury” beauty movement—think healthy-looking color and subtle radiance that make nails look naturally flawless.

If the glossy sheen of soap nails isn’t quite your style, “milky rosé” nails offer a softer alternative. With their sheer pink tones and natural-looking finish, they're a more understated take on the trend, delivering an elegant manicure that feels fresh, effortless, and perfectly suited to the season.

We speak with OPI educator Elisha Micallef for a breakdown on everything you need to know about the emerging trend, from exactly what to ask for at your next appointment to how to recreate the look as well as the variations set to take over this summer.

“Milky rosé nails are a sheer, milky pink manicure where you can still slightly see the natural nail underneath,” says Micallef. “They give a soft, subtle glow rather than a high-gloss finish, whereas the soap nail manicure is much shinier and less cloudy than the milky rosé look.”

The appeal lies in their understated finish. Rather than creating the ultra-reflective effect synonymous with soap nails, milky rosé nails enhance the natural nail with a veil of translucent pink that looks healthy, polished, and effortless. The result is a manicure that feels refined rather than overly perfected, making it ideal for those who favor a more minimal aesthetic.

Micallef likens the look to that fresh-out-of-the-shower feeling. “It's that clean, barely-there effect, like your nails are naturally healthy with just the slightest hint of rosy color,” she explains. “They don't look heavily polished or overdone; they simply look like the best version of your natural nails.”

If you usually opt for a long-lasting gel, acrylic, or BIAB manicure , it’s worth booking in with a professional to achieve the soft, translucent finish that defines the trend. The key to the look is choosing a sheer, milky pink polish that can be built up in thin layers. “ OPI Bubble Bath is the perfect example,” says Micallef. “It's buildable but still sheer, so you can create that diffused, milky effect without the nails looking opaque.” She recommends applying two to three coats to achieve the right wash of color.

When it comes to shape, short, square nails are proving to be the most popular choice, enhancing the clean, minimalist aesthetic. However, almond nails are just as flattering. “We're seeing a lot of clients opting for a short, square nail,” says Micallef, “but an almond shape works beautifully too, as the extra length allows the milky gradient to show through more, creating an even softer, more diffused finish.”
