Doha announced that Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met with US envoys Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments in the ongoing talks between the United States and Iran within the framework of the memorandum of understanding between the two parties, and the efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy, in addition to updates on regional conditions, especially the ceasefire in Lebanon, and the emphasis on the importance of stabilizing it and building upon it to maintain Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, according to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Qatari minister affirmed his country’s continued mediation efforts and support for all tracks of the talks stemming from the memorandum of understanding, leading to a comprehensive and sustainable solution that enhances regional security, preserves the interests of its people, and supports international peace and security.
The statement added that the US envoys affirmed Washington's appreciation for both the Qatari and Pakistani roles in mediation and its commitment to continuing the negotiation path and supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai has confirmed that Iran will hold talks with Qatar, which is playing a mediation role, to discuss implementing the temporary agreement between Tehran and Washington, adding that the release of frozen Iranian assets will be among the main issues to be addressed in this discussion.
Baghai added in his remarks on Tuesday that there are no plans for a meeting with the American side in the coming days, and that procedures to release frozen funds are underway, according to Reuters news agency.
This comes as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a phone call on Tuesday to Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian, who briefed him on the latest developments in the West Asia region and upcoming steps.
Modi wrote on the X platform: "I spoke with the Iranian president, Masoud Bezhakian, about the latest developments in the West Asia region. I welcomed the progress made in the negotiations and expressed my hope that ongoing efforts will lead to a lasting peace in the region. I also reiterated the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz for India and the world."
US President Donald Trump had previously announced that Iran had requested a meeting in Qatar on Tuesday, while Tehran denied the existence of any planned direct talks with Washington regarding the agreement aimed at ending the war in the Middle East.
The United States and Iran stated that they will send delegations to Doha this week, but they provided conflicting accounts regarding the timing of the visit and its purpose and whether it would include a meeting between the two sides.
This dispute arises as the temporary ceasefire is being put to a new test, following missile exchanges over the weekend, and amid continuing uncertainty regarding the implementation of the June 17 agreement, particularly the provisions related to the management of the Strait of Hormuz.

The issues raised in Doha focus on the implementation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, particularly the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz after the decline in navigation traffic there over the weekend following the targeting of a vessel while crossing the waterway.
An American official said that talks will continue regarding all the items of the memorandum, while Iran held separate talks with Oman regarding what it described as "the future management" of the ships passing through the strait.
The release of frozen Iranian funds is another essential file for Tehran, as Iranian President Masoud Bezhakian said that the necessary steps to release these funds are "ongoing," indicating that $6 billion will be released from the total of $12 billion.
