Players Attack Sony Everywhere After Disc End News

Sony can't escape.. Players' anger haunts it across all its platforms!

0 Twitter Telegram Whatsapp Facebook PlayStation announced earlier today that it will stop producing and manufacturing new physical video game discs starting January 2028. As expected, the reactions online have been extremely harsh, to the point where there is hardly a place on the web where Sony isn't under a barrage of player anger.

For example, the official account of Sony posted a simple tweet on platform X (formerly Twitter) hinting at the upcoming Spider-Man movie using just the spider emoji. Typically such posts receive a few hundred replies, but this time the tweet surpassed 3,000 replies, most of which do not even mention the film, but attack Sony's decision to stop PlayStation game discs.

The same thing happened on the official PlayStation account on Instagram, where interactions typically range between 200 and 300 comments, but the latest video from the company garnered over 2,000 comments, most of which express intense anger, demand the company to reverse its decision, or threaten to boycott its products and games in the future.

Even on PlayStation's YouTube channel, it was not spared; as the World of Tanks game update video – which usually receives only a few dozen comments – has now surpassed 300 comments, most of which voice similar waves of anger against the new decision.

Among the comments circulating across various Sony platforms:

“PS5 will be my last console. Your decision to stop supporting physical media and make the next generation fully digital makes no sense to me, and I see no reason to continue with PlayStation.”

“Shut down your PlayStation division instead of this Spider-Man nonsense.”

“I won't be buying a PS5 Pro now that Sony has stopped producing physical games.”

“Sony, I'm very angry. What is this future without game discs?”

“I think PS5 will be my last console. The lack of physical media means no real ownership of what we buy.”

The situation was not much different on the official PlayStation blog, where a new post announcing the upcoming free PS Plus games received fewer than 30 comments, but they included a mix of criticism over the game selections and attacks on the decision to end discs.

The same appeared on PlayStation's TikTok, even in a video promoting GTA 6 – which will also abandon physical releases – comments were filled with anger over the “code in a box” version, and direct attacks on Sony's recent decision. On Facebook, the situation was no better, as posts were filled with comments from users declaring their intention to end their support for the company.

Ironically, on the Sony Pictures Twitter account, where one rarely interacts with its posts, even there, in a standard post about the movie Talladega Nights, a sarcastic comment appeared from a user who wrote:

Amid all these platforms, it seems that Sony can no longer escape the anger of its audience, wherever it posts or speaks. The fundamental idea that players simply reject is: that in the near future they may not “own” the games they purchase at all, and would have no choice.

I have loved video games since the days of the family console, preferring adventure games like Tomb Raider and Assassins Creed (before the shift to RPG), I have no bias toward any home console for me the best is the one that delivers the most outstanding games. What matters to me are the experiences with compelling storytelling as the story is the foundation of enjoyment more than gameplay.
