Glenn Irwin and Charlie Nesbitt have both been declared unfit following the multi-rider incident at turn two during the opening British Superbike Championship race of the weekend at Snetterton.
The opening lap collision occurred when Graeme Irwin ran in too deep on the opening lap and clattered into a group of riders ahead of him. Alongside the Irwin brothers and Nesbitt, Rory Skinner was also caught up in the chaos which resulted in a red flag. All four riders failed to make the restart.
Nesbitt and Glenn Irwin were taken to the medical centre, and an update on their condition has now been released by the BSB organisers.

“Charlie Nesbitt sustained a fracture to 2nd metacarpal in his right hand – declared unfit. Glenn Irwin has pain in pelvic area and is being transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further assessment and scans, also declared unfit,” a social media post from the official BSB account said.
There will be some concern for Irwin as he suffered a pelvic injury during the Snetterton meeting last season. A crash in FP3 caused Irwin to sustain hip socket and pelvis injuries, with the Northern Irishman missing nine races as a result.
Irwin’s trip to Snetterton this year had already been a frustrating one prior to the crash. The Northern Irishman fell victim to technical problems in Free Practice 3 and qualifying . With no time set in Q2, Irwin had to start from 15th on the grid; leaving him in the busy and chaotic midfield pack on the opening lap.
The race itself was won by Bradley Ray , with the result declared at the beginning of the final lap due to track contamination caused by a mechanical for Christian Iddon.
Ray was joined on the podium by Scott Redding and Kyle Ryde after Max Cook suffered heartbreak due to a bike issue whilst fighting for victory against Ray. Leon Haslam and Ryan Vickers completed the top five.
Sunday’s races (July 5) are scheduled to take place at 13:20 and 16:30.
