Garell Quansah, England's defender, was sent off in his team’s match against Mexico in the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
Quansah received the red card after a strong challenge on Jesus Gallardo, a Mexican defender, during a shared play, leading the referee to send him off in the 54th minute.
The referee utilized the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology to issue the red card to Quansah, who left the field with disappointment, consoled by his teammates.
Quansah has become the first English player to be sent off in the World Cup in 20 years, with the last occasion being the former star Wayne Rooney, who was sent off against Portugal in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
This red card caused a reshuffle for German manager Thomas Tuchel, who had to substitute winger Bukayo Saka for defender John Stones to fill the void left by Quansah, the former Liverpool player and current Bayer Leverkusen player, after his ejection.
