The two may be released on PS5 without some classic modes.
0 Twitter Telegram Whatsapp Facebook Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II may not return to PS4 and PS5 with all of their original content, as new information suggests that the re-released versions could lack several modes and features that players loved at launch.
These speculations come after the achievement lists for both games appeared online, which seemed largely identical to their PS3 versions but revealed the absence of several achievements related to specific features.
According to a user on platform X known as ForwardLeaks, all achievements related to Theater Mode, as well as League Play and Wager Matches have been removed.
The Theater Mode allowed players to re-watch their previous matches with full camera control, a feature that became a favorite tool for content creators, especially during the early days of YouTube's rise.
Wager Matches, on the other hand, was one of the most distinct modes in the series, allowing players to bet in-game currency to compete in special matches featuring modes like Gun Game, which gives the player a new weapon with each kill, and One in the Chamber, where the player starts with only one bullet and receives no more until they eliminate an opponent.
Though these modes returned later in other entries in the series, the betting element completely disappeared from them.
Given the removal of achievements related to them, it seems that these modes may not exist at all in the new releases.
The same goes for League Play in Black Ops II, where the achievement associated with this competitive style has disappeared.
While this may seem disappointing to some, it is not entirely surprising, as it is difficult to imagine a thriving competitive scene for this mode after all these years.
Of course, it's still possible that these features exist with just the related achievements removed, but the retention of most other achievements as is makes the likelihood of these modes being entirely cut the most plausible scenario.
The report suggests the disappearance of Wager Matches could be related to new regulations concerning gambling in video games.
When Black Ops first launched in 2010, regulations governing these elements were not as strict as they are today. Now, many countries have imposed restrictions on any mechanisms that involve betting within games, which may have prompted Activision to remove this system entirely to avoid any legal complications.
However, there is still hope that modes like Gun Game and One in the Chamber may return, but without the betting system that was once associated with them in the past.
So far, Activision has not revealed a final release date for the enhanced versions, but has confirmed they will arrive on PS4 and PS5 sometime in July.
The company also clarified that the releases will include campaign, multiplayer, and zombies modes, while the fate of some other classic modes remains to be seen until the official announcement.
