The CEO of the Food and Drug Authority, Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhai, met with the chairman of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Dr. Alan Azzigili, in a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the 49th session of the commission, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 6 to 10. During the meeting, attended by the vice chairmen of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, Khaled Al-Zahrani from Saudi Arabia, Betul Vazgichir from Turkey, and Jing Tian from China, several topics of mutual interest were discussed, and opportunities for implementing training programs and joint workshops for member states and observers were explored, as well as reviewing the Kingdom's efforts to build capacity through the Food and Drug Authority Academy. His Excellency reiterated the Kingdom's continuous support for the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission and the strategic plan for 2026-2031, based on the importance of the role played by the commission in developing international food standards, enhancing food safety, and protecting consumer health globally. Dr. Aljadhai presented during the meeting the book "Saudi Food Composition Tables," which highlights the diversity of Saudi dishes and their nutritional values, and the chairman of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the commission's secretariat, and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization praised the efforts made by the Kingdom, represented by the Food and Drug Authority, in preparing this book, which serves as a scientific reference supporting food data and reflecting the richness of Saudi culinary heritage. It is noteworthy that the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) documented the Saudi Food Composition Tables book on its website, in addition to documenting the database of Saudi food compositions in the INFOODS platform of the organization, which confirms the impact of the authority and the Kingdom in international forums and highlights the scientific value of its outputs at the level of global organizations.
