Jürgen Klopp, the former coach of Liverpool FC, shocked by saying that his former club tried hard to sign French star Mbappe in 2017 when he was a player at Monaco.
A delegation from Liverpool traveled to Nice, France, on a private jet to meet with Mbappe and his family.
Klopp stated in remarks to the Magenta TV channel before the World Cup match between France and Morocco: "We traveled from Blackpool to Nice, and the whole Mbappe family took a private jet with about 5 rooms or so."
He added: "We did our best; we traveled and talked to his family and had a hearty meal, it didn’t work out, then we traveled and he moved to Paris."
In the end, Mbappe transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for 180 million euros (296.4 million dollars).
Klopp also mentioned that he wanted to sign Ousmane Dembélé, but the latter decided to leave Rennes and join Klopp's former team; Borussia Dortmund, in 2016.
