This week, we feature two wines new to Dunnes Stores. We don’t see much of it here, but grillo is one of the most widely planted indigenous white grape varieties in Sicily. Historically, it was used to make Marsala, the island’s fortified wine . As Marsala has declined in popularity, many have switched to making table wine. Some of these can be very good.
Pinot noir is the red grape of Burgundy , producing all the well-known names such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Volnay and Nuits St Georges. Jaffelin is based in Burgundy, but this wine is made from grapes sourced from various parts of France, hence its designation as a Vin de France.
Plump ripe tropical fruits with good balancing acidity and a rounded finish. This would be good by itself or with prawns, scallops or Asian fish curries.
Very seductive, sweet, ripe, jammy dark fruits and a soft, smooth finish. This would make a good party wine , or you could serve it alongside salmon, roast chicken or duck.
