Algerian Football Federation: Our World Cup participation did not meet expectations... and we will not allow insults and deception

The Algerian Football Federation expressed its regret over the elimination of its national team in the Round of 32 of the World Cup held in North America, acknowledging that the participation of the 'Greens' in the World Cup did not meet the expectations of the fans, even though it represented 'an important station in the reconstruction and development of Algerian football after 12 years of absence.'

The Algerian Federation avoided discussing the fate of coach Vladimir Petkovic, following rumors of his resignation and the appointment of former player Anthar Yahya as his replacement, preferring to emphasize its full awareness that the aspirations of the Algerian people require results that match the history, capabilities, and ambitions of national football.

The Algerian Federation stated in a statement following a meeting of its executive office on Saturday that it understands the disappointment of the fans and shares their ambition to see the national team regain the status that Algerian football occupies on the international stage.

It announced the launch of a comprehensive and purposeful evaluation of Algeria's participation in the World Cup, covering all sporting and organizational aspects to identify the lessons that must be drawn, the shortcomings that must be corrected, and the measures that must be taken to ensure the national team's ongoing competitiveness.

The Federation welcomed what it called 'objective and constructive criticism that serves national football,' stressing that it believes the exchange of ideas, when based on facts and respect for individuals and the search for solutions, is a fundamental factor in progress.

On the other hand, it strongly condemned 'hate speech, deceptive campaigns, attempts to manipulate public opinion, personal attacks, and any forms of incitement to division or verbal violence,' noting that freedom of expression should never be used as a justification for insults, slander, threats, or violations of the dignity of individuals and institutions.

In what seems to be a response to calls for the resignation of its president Walid Sadi, the Algerian Federation confirmed that it will not yield to 'any form of deception, manipulation, or attempts to destabilize its institutions, leaders, or employees, or the structural reforms being carried out in the interest of national football.'

It also emphasized that it will continue 'calmly and determinedly to implement its measures in the interest of public football,' reiterating that 'building a high-performing national team is a process that requires a great effort, sufficient time, stability, a strategic vision, and continuity in work.'

The Algerian Federation insisted on 'resolutely implementing its developmental plan to ensure the best conditions for all national teams in terms of preparation, performance, and success while establishing the foundations of a modern, high-performing, and sustainable national football system.'

It also called on all components of the Algerian football family, including associations, clubs, players, coaches, referees, officials, media, partners, and fans, to maintain unity, calm, and a sense of responsibility, acknowledging that 'the challenges facing Algerian football can only be confronted in an atmosphere of trust, stability, and collective mobilization.'
