Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The upcoming official state visit of Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi to Washington, D.C., has garnered widespread and cross-partisan parliamentary support in Baghdad, with lawmakers expressing high expectations for a new phase of bilateral relations.

Scheduled at a highly critical geopolitical juncture, the high-level summit aims to establish a sustainable, balanced partnership with the United States. The expansive diplomatic agenda covers a wide range of critical fields, including economic stimulation, global private-sector investment, regional maritime and territorial security, advanced military aviation procurement, the release of frozen sovereign assets, and the reconstruction of minority territories.

Mansour Al-Baeeji, a prominent Member of Parliament representing the Construction and Development Coalition, emphasized the strategic weight of the Prime Minister’s upcoming Washington mission. Al-Baeeji noted that the results of these high-level discussions will directly impact Iraq's domestic stability and financial future.

The primary objective of the al-Zaidi administration is to transition away from historical dependencies and forge a true economic partnership centered on reciprocal industrial growth and investment.

Al-Baeeji further explained that attracting global corporate giants to modernize Iraq’s public services remains a top priority for the current cabinet. However, he acknowledged that regional security friction will inevitably command significant attention at the negotiating table, particularly given the ongoing geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran.

The coalition hopes the visit will move beyond symbolic diplomacy to build concrete institutional trust and secure comprehensive American backing for Iraq's sovereign economic goals.

The head of the Yazidi Parliamentary Bloc, MP Khaled Sido Uzair, highlighted the long-term vision behind the diplomatic push, stating that the summit establishes a framework based on absolute respect for Iraqi sovereignty and mutual national interests. Uzair observed that the visit signals a sophisticated shift toward “economic geography,” positioning Iraq as a reliable commercial hub and a key pillar of diplomatic de-escalation in the Middle East.

Representing the Yazidi component in the Council of Representatives, Uzair expressed strong support for the Prime Minister’s diplomatic maneuvers. He raised expectations that the high-level talks will directly address the humanitarian and developmental struggles facing minority communities. Lawmakers are looking to the summit to secure definitive commitments for new infrastructure projects, the closure of displacement camps, and the comprehensive reconstruction of liberated towns to reinforce the foundations of equal citizenship and social justice.

Expressing optimism regarding Prime Minister al-Zaidi’s proactive approach, Hussein Sahib Al-Bayati, an MP representing the Ishraqat Kanoon parliamentary bloc, stressed that the legislative branch expects tangible deliverables rather than a purely ceremonial protocol visit.

Al-Bayati urged the Prime Minister to take a firm stance on financial sovereignty by demanding the official release of frozen Iraqi fund…
