Cancellation of the Global Version and Final Shutdown of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile in China

0 Twitter Telegram Whatsapp Facebook LightSpeed Studios announced the permanent shutdown of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile (the Chinese version) on iOS and Android devices, while also confirming that the global version of the game is no longer in development, ending all plans for its release outside of China.

The game was launched in China on June 19, 2025, with promises of a global release later, but those plans have been officially canceled.

In an emotional statement addressed to the player community, LightSpeed Studios said:

"On the launch day of Final Fantasy XIV Mobile in China, we said: 'Let the echoes of light resonate, and let us fight together,' and we promised you that the adventure had just begun."

The team added that players were the true reason behind bringing the world of 'Eorzea Mobile' to life, noting that their suggestions and feedback contributed to the game's development, while veteran warriors acted as mentors to new players, creating a cohesive community over time that the team considered one of their greatest achievements.

"Our journey with you has been the greatest blessing in this world we built together, and it will remain a memory we will never forget."

However, the studio clarified that circumstances have changed, as it confirmed that adjustments in business operations and changes in market conditions led Tencent and Square Enix to mutually terminate the licensing agreement.

As a result, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile in China will officially be shut down on September 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM (UTC+8).

The team acknowledged that it could not meet player expectations, offering a sincere apology to everyone who supported the project from the beginning, and also apologized to players who were waiting for the global version, confirming it will not see the light of day.

The statement outlined the final stages for ending the game, which were as follows:

The company also clarified that, in accordance with Chinese laws regarding personal data protection, all player accounts, character data, and associated information will be deleted after the servers are closed unless stipulated otherwise by law or terms of use.

The development team concluded their message by noting that only 76 days remained until the game’s journey ended, confirming that they would do their utmost to make this final period the best it can be for players.

"Thank you again for your support throughout this journey… from the depths of our hearts."

I have loved video games since the days of the family console, preferring adventure games like Tomb Raider and Assassins Creed (before switching to RPGs), and I have no bias towards any home console; to me, the best is the one that offers the most distinctive games. What matters to me is the experiences with exciting storytelling, as the story is the basis of enjoyment more than gameplay.
