The United States' visa bond program is set to become a permanent fixture, with tourists from select countries required to temporarily hand over up to $20,000 to obtain a visa.

The rule finalizes a year-long pilot program targeting countries deemed at-risk for visa misuse and overstays. The final rule is set to publish on August 3 on the Federal Register’s website and go into effect the same day.

The program targets applications for temporary B1/B2 visas designed for business travelers and tourists.
