Raul Fernandez dominated the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to secure the second MotoGP victory of his career.
The Spaniard made a great start to the race and quickly pulled clear of the field. With tyre wear being an issue at Silverstone, it was expected that the other riders would close Fernandez down in the final few laps of the race, however that never came to fruition.
Instead, Fernandez managed his pace perfectly and crossed the line with an advantage of 2.538s over the field. It’s the perfect response from Fernandez after his crash in the Sprint race on Saturday afternoon.
Fernandez becomes the 12 th different rider to win the British Grand Prix in the last 12 races.
It’s also Fernandez’s third consecutive Grand Prix podium having finished second at Assen and third at the Sachsenring. The Trackhouse Aprilia team confirmed a new two-year contract extension for Fernandez earlier this week.
It was a great day for Jorge Martin’s championship hopes as the series leader recovered from a faulty ride height device at the first corner to finish second.
Ai Ogura, the rider closest to Martin heading into the weekend, suffered his first crash of the season when he fell at turn six on the ninth lap. Marc Marquez struggled once again for grip on his Ducati and could only manage seventh, whilst Fabio di Giannantonio fought his way through to sixth after a slow start.
With Marco Bezzecchi fighting through the pain barrier to secure a podium in third, the Italian is now the closest rider to Martin the championship. He is however 31 points behind his Aprilia teammate.
Ogura is now 37 points adrift, whilst Marquez is now 40 points behind the 2024 world champion in fourth. Coming into the weekend, only 24 points separated the top five, but this figure now sits at 41.
Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta finished fourth and fifth respectfully, with Brad Binder, Luca Marini and Diogo Moreira completing the top 10.
Franco Morbidelli finished 11 th , whilst Fabio Quartararo was once again the leading Yamaha rider in 12 th . Jack Miller, Pol Espargaro and Toprak Razgatlioglu secured the final points available in the race. Yamaha wildcard entrant Augusto Fernandez was the final classified rider.
Joan Mir and Alex Rins crashed at turn seven on the opening lap. The incident was placed under investigation, but no further action was taken. Enea Bastainini crashed at turn 17 on lap five, whilst Iker Lecuona also fell out of contention at turn 17 on the following lap.
There was no home Grand Prix joy for Cal Crutchlow as he crashed his LCR Honda on lap seven, whilst Pecco Bagnaia’s difficult weekend ended prematurely at turn seven on lap eight.
Round 13 of the 2026 MotoGP season takes place at Aragon on August 28-30.
