But the studio's plans for the X-Men under Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier has been the source of much reporting, rumor, and speculation for the past few years.
At D23 , Disney's fan convention, Marvel officially revealed who will be joining the MCU as its merry band of mutants, confirming who will be joining the one X-person revealed in this summer's runaway blockbuster, Spider-Man: Brand New Day . On Friday, Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege welcomed an all-star cast to the stage, announcing who will be stepping into the roles of Cyclops, Storm, Professor X, Rogue, and more.
Marvel's new X-Men movie also got a final title and release date: X-Men will be coming to movie theaters on May 5, 2028.
Here's who's starring in Marvel's new X-Men movie:
Adam Driver, best known for his work on the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Girls , and Megalopolis , is finally joining the MCU after turning down several roles. Driver will bring a villainous energy on par with his role as Kylo Ren in Star Wars.
Driver didn't show up in person at D23, but showed up via pre-recorded video. He initially told the D23 audience that he was playing Magneto, but quickly corrected himself to reveal his true role: Nathaniel Milbury, an alias of Mister Sinister.
"When Kevin told me to show up for X-Men, I assumed he meant on set," Driver said. "So instead of being there in California, I’m here at Pinewood on this very lonely soundstage. Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time. So I’m very excited to be playing Magneto... Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up."
Christopher Abbot reunites with his former Girls co-star as Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, the head of the school for gifted youngsters. Abbott is mostly known for his TV and film roles in independent film ( Possessor , Poor Things , It Comes at Night ) but has played a Marvel character before. He was the supervillain assassin known as Foreigner in Sony Pictures' Kraven the Hunter .
We already knew that Sadie Sink of Stranger Things fame was the mutant Jean Grey, thanks to her secretive role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day . But now we know that Jean's autumnal bus ride at the end of that film was, as some Marvel fans surmised, was taking her to Xavier's school in upstate New York.
